Shu-Te University is a new university of science and technology that aims to provide students and staff with the best learning and working environment in technology. And with the full support from the school authorities, the computer center is committed to promoting the computerization of campus administration in hopes of providing better services to students.

In the new era of knowledge of economy, the application of information technology and knowledge management of business and industry have played an important role in increasing industry productivity. Undoubtedly, the internet has revolutionized the entire education by expanding its scope and reach.. In order to help students achieve the best learning outcome, Shu-Te University has developed a project to integrate the internet and learning, with a goal to fully utilize internet learning in the near future. The school will also market its internet learning project with e-commerce in the hopes of meeting the demands of students from all walks of life.

In order to provide better services to the faculty and students, Shu-Te University is stepping up the construction of high speed internet and multi-media network. The mainframe of the network is based on the technology of ATM switch and fiber optics for the following reasons.

•  The ATM technology can be used to expand the broadband, to integrate the network inside and outside the campus and to integrate various multimedia services.

•  Fiber optics can provide broadband, and is electronic-radiation proof.

It is estimated that the speed of the campus network can go up to 4.2Gbps, which can sufficiently provides the staff and students with all kinds of services including teleconferencing.

The future campus network is constructed based on the following needs.

•  integration of various administration systems on campus

•  E-learning( including distance learning, virtual classroom and web-based learning environment)

•  Development of future research (including email system, file transmissions, and virtual computer terminals)

The school has therefore, constructed the most advanced high-speed internet (Gigabit ), which can increase the speed up to 1000M Byte/ second.
